| A DICOM message is encoded in a certain manner using tags, the length indication for each data element, an optional identification of the type of data using the so-called Value Representation (VR), and the actual value of the attribute. Value Length is an unsigned integer, which contains the length of the value field in bytes. Some special variations of the length field are detailed in DICOM Part 5. |
