Network Time Protocol (NTP) is designed to synchronize the clocks of computers over a network. IN the context of DICOM, this is important for two applications:

• for audit trails, to make sure that the recorded time of an event is the actual time
• to synchronize simultaneous acquisition of different modalities, such as an EKG with a cardiology CINE run.
